Understanding Positive Behavior Support

Participants will receive instruction in the use of Life Space Crisis Intervention techniques and processes with children in out of home care. Life Space Crisis Intervention is a strength-based approach to conflict resolution that promotes growth and change in children and adolescents. Focusing on six common behavior patterns, participants will learn strategies to use as alternatives to coercion and punishment that make a positive difference in the lives of others. Course format will be didactic lecture, seminar discussion, and role-plays. Staff will receive training regarding the quality assurance and improvement processes and procedures of the agency, including service documentation systems, standards, timetables, and protocols.  Staff will also receive a review of incident reporting policies and procedures. Incident Report forms will be introduced.  Guidelines for using accurate and descriptive language in reporting will be presented.  Staff will also receive an overview of current statistics on child abuse, including information regarding types, ages, victims, and perpetrators of abuse. The impact of various forms of abuse upon child behaviors and presentations for care will be presented and discussed. Types of reportable child abuse will be reviewed, as will obligations of care providers of children in out of home care as mandated reporters.

Trainer: Walid Assef, M.A., currently serves as the Supervisor for Intensive Classroom Services at Lincoln and is an independent consultant in the medical industry. Walid has more than eight years’ experience working with youth and families in various environments—public schools and residential programs working with students with autism, as well as various social/emotional diagnosis that impede learning. As a consultant, Walid specializes in working with companies to build better systems to increase productivity and positive employee relationships. In addition, Walid has dedicated his time to helping the Muslim community in the greater Bay Area increase its voice and defend its rights, as well as supporting Muslim families with children and issues within the school and home systems. Walid is trilingual in Farsi and German and holds a master of arts in industrial psychology and organizational development from Golden Gate University, as well as a bachelor of arts from San Francisco State University.

Training Registration Policy

Registration closes a week prior to the training and we cannot accept late registrations. Thank you for your understanding.

Training Cancellation Policy

If we cancel training or special event as a result of low registration, for example, registrants will be notified by email or phone one week prior to the training date and receive a full refund. Where courses are cancelled for reasons beyond our control, then registrants will be given shorter notice and will receive a full refund. If a registrant cannot attend training and contacts the Training Institute within 72 hours of the training or special event to cancel, a full refund will be issued. If a registrant contacts the Training Institute outside of the 72 hour period, a refund will not be issued.

Grievances

When a grievance arises pertaining to a Lincoln training, the complainant is expected to notify Minjon LeNoir, Director of Training, either by phone (510-273-4700, x4331, in writing, or in email (minjonlenoir@lincolnfamilies.org), as soon as possible so that the nature of the concern may be addressed in a timely fashion in order to be resolved.

Continuing Education

This course meets the qualifications for six (6) BBS CEUs for LPCCs, LCSWs and MFTs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences & is provided by Lincoln, Provider #4906.
