Following our continued work with the Alliance for Children’s Rights, we are actively supporting two state bills to better support kinship families. AB 2124 would establish Kin-Gap funding for all kin guardianships and reform the probate guardianship process that often cuts families off from services and funding. AB 1954 would continue to improve the Resource Family Approval (RFA) process, reform the timeline on how quickly a court has to hear a request for relative placement to 15 days, and keep siblings together when a relative placement is an option.
