Calm, Connected, and Effective: Responding Skilfullly to Childrens Difficult Behaviors

  • Lincoln 51 Marina Boulevard Pittsburg, CA, 94565 United States (map)

DESCRIPTION

Children often act in ways that can leave caregivers feeling confused, exasperated, angry, disappointed, exhausted, helpless, and even ashamed and embarrassed. Are you parenting a child who frequently has tantrums, does not listen to directions, defies rules, argues with others, refuses to get up in the morning or go to bed at night, or avoids tasks like school work or chores? This training will help you to better understand your child’s most challenging behaviors and teach you concrete strategies for responding more calmly and effectively, while maintaining a positive connection between the two of you. Come learn new perspectives and parenting techniques, in an environment of communal support and encouragement!

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify two underlying causes of children’s oppositional, defiant and disruptive behavior.

  2. Define emotional regulation and explain how it relates to human behavior.

  3. Practice decoding what is being communicated through a child’s behavior.

  4. Establish a minimum of three personal strategies for preventing oppositional, defiant and disruptive behavior.

  5. Establish a minimum of three personal strategies for responding effectively to oppositional, defiant and disruptive behavior when it is already occurring.
