DESCRIPTION
This training will provide participants with an overview of HIV from a contemporary perspective including the untreated disease process, prevention options, and effective treatment for individual, family, and community wellbeing. Participants will engage in discussions about micro, mezzo, and macro protective and risk factors that influence engagement in HIV care and treatment. Didactic portions will be dedicated to understanding state and federal public benefits structures to support the well-being of People Living with HIV.
Learning Objectives:
1. Describe the HIV disease process from transmission to chronic HIV infection to AIDS
2. Explain the basics of contemporary medical and behavioral interventions for HIV prevention
3. Identify societal, familial, cultural and other factors that impact engagement in HIV prevention and care
4. Describe the public benefits systems available to pay for HIV care and treatment
Trainer
Andrew “Andy” Scheer, LCSW is a bilingual Medical Social Worker for the San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH) where he supports clients with entry into HIV primary care at SF City Clinic. For the past several years, he has also worked in capacity building for colleagues and clients around navigation of complex Affordable Care Act insurance and HIV benefits systems. He is a co-founder and current member of the community organizing group SF HIV Frontline Workers, recently served for two years as a co-chair of the Getting to Zero Retention & Re-engagement committee, and currently provides technical assistance to SFDPH’s new HIV Intensive Case Management program for HIV+ adults with high acuity of psychosocial needs. Mr. Scheer is a graduate of the California State University, East Bay graduate school of Social Work.

Continuing Education
This course meets the qualifications for six (6) CEUs for LPCCs, LCSWs and MFTs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences and is provided by Lincoln under CAMFT's Continuing Education Provider Program (CEPA), #133478.
Training Registration Policy
Registration closes a week prior to the training and we cannot accept late registrations. Thank you for your understanding.
Training Cancellation Policy
If we cancel training or special event as a result of low registration, for example, registrants will be notified by email or phone one week prior to the training date and receive a full refund. Where courses are cancelled for reasons beyond our control, then registrants will be given shorter notice and will receive a full refund. If a registrant cannot attend training and contacts the Training Institute within 72 hours of the training or special event to cancel, a full refund will be issued. If a registrant contacts the Training Institute outside of the 72 hour period, a refund will not be issued.

Grievances
